THE CRAFT BEHIND ANTONIO
Casual but refined, Antonio is the definitive FRESCOBOL CARIOCA linen shirt for leisure time dressing. With breezy charm, unique texture, and refined natural properties, the linen shirt has remained a resort-wear staple for decades.
One of the world’s oldest textiles, linen is prized for its durability and becomes stronger when wet. Linen fibres can absorb 20% of its total weight in moisture before the fabric begins to feel damp. Its absorbency makes it super effective at drawing moisture away from the body when worn, and with a lower thread count than cotton, air circulates more freely making it naturally thermoregulating, an essential warm-weather fabrication.
Linen's levity is owed to the nature of its fibres. Comprised of a natural flax weave, each yarn contains a hollow twist. This allows increased airflow through the garment, as well as its lightweight quality—making it ideal for warm weather clothing.
Linen garments are frequently overlooked for more formal occasions as they are notorious for wrinkling easily, however linen wrinkles are a sign of fabric quality. ‘Honest’ wrinkles serve to demonstrate the fabric's proximity to its natural flax, which lacks the elasticity of synthetic materials. Wrinkles add to the natural charm of a linen piece, but will soften with age and washing, it’s a fabric you’ll see the most benefit from when worn often.
Producing linen requires the know-how of generations of flax growers to assure the finest quality, harnessed after years of mastering the craft. This characteristic keeps production rooted to the territories of origin, reducing its carbon footprint and contributing to the social wellbeing of growing areas. Our linen is masterfully crafted in Italy by skilled artisans using centuries-old techniques in traditional, family-run mills. Beginning with carefully spun flax fibres, it is then woven with precision and care to create the lightweight, moisture-wicking fabric.

Expertly constructed by hand, the linen panels are carefully pieced together using subtle flat-felled seams for minimal bulk - joined neatly at the front by imitation tonal mother-of-pearl buttons on a full placket. Our Antonio linen shirt is complete with a cutaway collar and softly curved hemline, attributes that hark back to a traditional dress-shirt, for enhanced mobility and to help maintain the Antonio’s signature silhouette when worn.
