HOW TO CARE FOR MERINO WOOL
Italian Merino wool is spun from the coat of Merino sheep, creating exceptionally fine fibres and a remarkably soft handle. Naturally temperature regulating, this fabrication provides warmth while maintaining a refined finish and breathable properties.
One of the oldest known animal-produced fibres, wools contains “scales” along its surface, a characteristic specific only to organic fabrications. These are responsible for the felt-like texture synonymous with woollen garments, and directly inform the thickness of its thread and the handle of the finished product. The softness of the material's texture is based on the diameter of its fiber––measured in micron, or one millionth of a meter. Merino wool in specific contains one of the finest micros available in garment construction, with the average fibers measuring around 22 micron, around half to quarter smaller than the diameter of a strand of human hair. This creates an ultra-soft handfeel to the fabric, with fibers softer than that of cashmere.
Despite its delicate nature, Merino wool can be easy to care for. With the below simple steps, a Merino garment can accompany its wearer through the seasons, year after year.

How to Wash
Merino wool can be both machine or hand washed. If washing via machine, always select a mode with temperature 30° or lower. For handwashing, turn the garment inside out, wash and soak for 10 minutes in lukewarm water, then rinse in cold water. For both methods, ensure to utilise a neutral, mild detergent and avoid fabric softener.
How to Dry
Due to the natural characteristics of the fabric, Merino wool should not be tumble dried as this could increase the risk of shrinking. Instead, allow the garment to air dry while laying flat. When laying the garment out, gently mould it back to its natural shape and eliminate any creases. Avoiding both direct sunlight and laying the garment over heaters during the drying process is also recommended.
How to Store
Storing a Merino garment varies between seasons: in the Summer, store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. This will preserve both the colour and fibre integrity of the piece. In the Winter, take care to air the garment out between each individual wear, preventing odours and overly-frequent washing.
