OUR PROPRIETARY BLEND OF TERRY COTTON
The FRESCOBOL CARIOCA version of terry, the original resort fabrication, has evolved along with the brand.
Over the course of a decade, we developed a proprietary terry construction that moves beyond the conventions of the traditional loopback cotton fabrication. Beginning as a refinement of our plain terry, and later developing into a complex jacquard fabrication, our terry cotton is engineered to balance performance, durability, and elevated hand feel.

The foundation lies in a fibre blend chosen especially by our production and design team: linen, cotton, and lyocell. The blend is then knitted into a terry structure – while most terry fabrics remain 100% cotton, this trio composition introduces a more nuanced set of characteristics.
Cotton provides the main structure of the fabric: stability, absorbency, and a familiarity against the skin. Linen, our house fabrication, contributes tactile character and irregularity, creating a more dimensional texture. Lyocell, a regenerated cellulose fibre, enhances the fabric’s performance properties: improving softness, drape, and thermoregulation. Notably, the addition of lyocell enhances moisture-management benefits that are particularly suited to warmer environments, as are our terry garments.
Through the extensive development process, the central technical challenge became achieving equilibrium between these vastly different fibres. Higher concentrations of linen, while desirable for texture, reduced the overall stability of the weave, increasing susceptibility to distortion and tearing. Conversely, a lack of linen diminished the intended tactility and visual depth.

The differing behaviours of the three fibres — particularly the fluidity of lyocell and linen’s tendency to contract — required extensive wash testing and finishing adjustments. The objective was clear: to ensure the fabric could withstand machine washing without compromising structural integrity, dimensional stability, or surface quality. Multiple rounds of prototyping were required to adjust the ratio precisely.
The final result is a jacquard terry that is technically and materially refined. It retains the functional performance of classic terry, via absorbency, breathability and comfort; while introducing an enhanced drape, a cooler hand feel, and a more sophisticated texture profile.
This is fabric engineered with intent. A balance of natural fibres and modern processing, designed to perform consistently and improve its wear exceptionally over time.
