FRESCOBOL BY DESIGN

Between 5-8 June, FRESCOBOL CARIOCA popped up in London with an artistic reimagining of our eponymous product. Frescobol By Design, a visual and sculptural exhibit paying homage to the beautiful game of frescobol born on the shores of Rio de Janeiro’s Copacabana beach.

Rooted in the game’s inclusive spirit and rhythmic energy, we reflect on its origins through signature handcrafted bats, each made by skilled Brazilian artisans using sustainably sourced wood.

Frescobol by Design was conceived and realised via a close knit ‘doubles partnership’ consisting of revered creatives Gabriele Rosati & Alberto Simoni; an authentic, modernist and physically distilled expression of the FRESCOBOL CARIOCA ethos, DNA & cultural values. Audiences were invited to engage with the project’s nuanced exploration of the frescobol bat, not merely as a recreational object, but as a symbolic tool - one that activates a dialogue between body, spirit, and one’s immediate environment.

Developed and subsequently realised across two distinctly separate yet interwoven layers - photographic and sculptural - this curated assignment examines the potential of repetition as both form and gesture. Through iterative and repeat compositions, the bat comes to life to become a truly modular element: frame by frame, it composes & constructs visual rhythms within geometric structures that depart from its other-wise tactile identity.

Rather than celebrating the object in isolation, the project seeks to both dissolve and manifest its craftsmanship & beauty through repetition - subsuming the bat into larger patterns that reflect the ethos of a sport defined not by competition, but by pure cultural harmony, togetherness, and the nuance of play. In doing so, it reframes and celebrates the bat as both subject and instrument: a quiet and artisanally beautiful object, a conduit for movement, meditation, and collective imagination.

No longer destined for retail, but far from discarded, materials in these works are elevated - selected not for perfection, but for the character and soulful irregularity they bring to form. In this way, the project embodies a quiet sustainability, where artisanal craft meets conscious design, honouring both heritage and the inherent beauty of material.

With a curation of pieces from our High Summer 2025 collection, guests were invited to explore how the attention to detail and savoir-faire, present in the production of our bats, directly informs our craftsmanship in ready-to-wear. Exemplified through our hand-drawn prints and considered design, we capture the effortless harmony of Rio’s beach-to-city lifestyle.

Inspired by Rio’s way of life, we champion the Art of Summering. More than a season, summering is a mindset. A balance of sea & city, leisure & spontaneity, unhurried experiences - a serene game of frescobol with no mandated beginning or end. It’s not a place or a plan, but a way of being - lived and quietly passed on.
